Next Nonbelieving Literati Selection

http://thechapel.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/room.jpg?w=150&h=225 I have no idea how this happened, but I was delegated to choose the next nonbelieving literati selection. Our assignment is to read A Room of One’s Own, by Virginia Woolf. The target date for posting a response to the book is May 1, 2008.

The idea is to write something philosophical, introspective, reflective, satirical, humorous, or in any other style you wish to apply, that is inspired by Woolf’s book. It can be, but need not be, a review. In fact, some members of the group don’t really like reviews, but don’t let that scare you away. Write whatever you want to write as long as it connects in some way to the book.

If you are not yet a member of the literati, but really, really, really want to be one, feel free to read along with us and write your own post about the book. If you do this, come back to this blog on May 1 and provide a link to your post. We’ll head over there, read your post, write some comments and let you know if we’ve also written literati posts. Also, check in at the Exterminator’s place so that he can add you to his master list. If you’re interested in learning more about the group and the concept, read the Exterminator’s explanation.

  1. Speaking of Exterminator’s “Introduction”, that’s what I’ve been linking potential new members to and I think it’s time for a different post. That one is actually the original idea and a little dated. Ex should probably make a new NL post that is specifically targeting new members. Each month he could update the books we have read in the past. I know he already has that list on his sidebar, but you can’t link to a sidebar.

Ex, if you do a “Join the Nonbelieving Literati” post, those of us who want to could also link on our sidebars.

  2. Good idea, Evo. I’ll write that tomorrow.

  3. Nice choice! It’s an essay, rather than fiction, right? Should be interesting.

  4. Interesting choice. Looking forward to reading it – will pick it up today.

  5. Oh, good!. 216 pages. Are there any pictures? Maybe a couple of her room?

I wonder why she wrote a book about interior decorating?

  6. I’m looking forward to reading it and your responses. BTW, Ex’s link leads to an annotated edition. It is not expected that you will read or comment on the annotations, but you may do so if you wish.

SI – I don’t know if there’s a Classic Comics edition for this one. :)

  7. Hey, SI – the copy I just bought only has 114 pages. Dump the notes ;-)

  8. Link, Ridger?

  9. Mine shipped just a few minutes ago, so I should be reading it in a week or two.

I think I’m going to stick to fiction for a little while. I finish a book in less than a week. It can take me two months to get through a Dawkins title! :) Yeah, there’s a lot less to digest in most fiction and plus a good story can keep me up all hours of the night.
